KWFC Parking Lot & Access (September 16 - September 19)

KFWC parking lot paving project begins tomorrow, September 16, at approximately 7:30 AM. Please note that this will temporarily create a challenging situation for accessing our office spaces. Large paving equipment will be operating throughout the next four days, so please use extra caution when arriving and walking through the area.

On the left is the parking and pedestrian plan for this week:

CHR / Prevention - Please park in the cul-de-sac located behind our lot. Access your offices either through the backyard or by walking between the sheds.

Behavioral Health - Please park under the large trees near the basketball courts. Use the edge of the Senior Center parking lot, then follow the west side of the building to enter through the front doors. Please message your clients accordingly.

Safety Key:

  • Red Outlined Areas: Dangerous and strictly off limits.
  • Green “P” Markers: Approved day-time parking areas.
  • Bright Green Paths: Designated walking routes to the CHR office or KFWC front entrance.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this project. Your attention to these guidelines will help keep everyone safe while we improve our facility!

News & Highlights

Equine Therapy Veteran Grant

KFWC has been awarded a grant to provide Equine Therapy Services in Santo Domingo.  Equine Therapy has been shown to be specially promising in indigenous communities as horses are inextricably linked to identity, culture, and tradition. This emerging alternative to traditional behavioral health treatments has been shown to help at risk youth engage in the form of talk therapy to process emotional issues while immersed in an outdoor multiple sensory experience. The process of working with a mental health professional while learning to engage and care for horses through grooming, saddling, and riding has shown to improve confidence, self-esteem responsibility, reduced anxiety, increased communication, and problem-solving skills.

CHR Mobile Unit Services Grant

Santo Domingo Pueblo has been awarded a $417,000 grant to implement a harm reduction low barrier mobile service led by a team of Community Health Representatives (CHR). We are grateful to Governor Grisham’s Administration for providing funding to rural communities hard hit by the covid 19 pandemic that need social, medical, and housing supports to be successful in building a strong foundation to future generations. The grant awarded to Santo Domingo will provide an opportunity for us to meet individuals where they are in order to provide harm reduction, behavioral health services, and connection to medical support.

CDC Comes to Visit

The CHR program was honored to have the CDC come from Washington to honor and acknowledge all the work done by our CHR program during the pandemic.  A traditional Hoop Dancer also performed for our CDC quests.

Native Connections Team Visits Spokane for the Regional Site Visit

Native Connections is a five-year grant program that helps American Indian and Alaska Native communities identify and address the behavioral health needs of Native youth.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Native Connections (NC) Training and Technical Assistance Center (TTA) held its Montana-Wyoming (MT-WY) Regional Site Visit (RSV). It was a 3-day site visit that included all grantees supported by the NC TTA Center from Montana and Wyoming regions.

The main objectives were:

  • Create a sense of belonging using the Gathering of Native Americans (GONA) format to better familiarize participants with GONA
  • Share NC grantee project accomplishments as well as strengths, challenges, and solutions
  • Create an opportunity for peer-to-peer networking, sharing, and learning
  • Share suicide and substance misuse prevention initiatives and cultural resources
  • Provide up-to-date information on the NC approach
